re: If you follow AMD's comments over the last year you would note that in Q3 AMD was talking about 1.5Mu in Q1. This was guided down by the time Q4 earnings came out.

Also, check out the AMD annual conference Q&A and you will note that Jerry is talking about Athlons being limited by infrastructure in Q2. Jerry is promising better things in Q3 but as I keep saying this is a lost opportunity.

I agree with you that there AMD did lose some opportunity. AMD WAS limited by infrastructure in Q3, Q4 and Q1. There still continues to be infrastructure limitations in Q2. Jerry said in the annual meeting that this infrastucture limitation would dissappear in Q3. This makes sense. There were no motherboards or non AMD chipsets available when the Athlon was released. The industry didn't believe the Athlon would succeed... so they didn't back it.

But then they got first glimpses... and realized "Oh sh*t" we have to jump on this NOW! So a few smart companies did... and then an earthquake happened... probably caused a three to four week delay (if not a few more) in the infrastructure ramp for Athlon chipsets and boards with VIA coming out first. Q1 shipments were 1.2M, stock on hand was ~250,000 pretty close to Jerry's Q3 estimate of 1.5M.

Yes, there have been $$ left on the table by AMD in Q3, Q4 and Q1, and there will be some $$ left on the table in Q2. A residual effect of not being the market dominator.

Now put the shoe on the other foot... how much has Intel left on the table during the past 9 months? How much more will Intel leave on the table in Q2?
