MUSIC Semiconductors Works With Wind River to Build Epoch Reference Design 05/02 8:51A (BW) Story 1091 (WIND) SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2000-- Significant deal will create multiple reference designs, first of which will launch at Networld Interop MUSIC Semiconductors has partnered with Wind River Systems, Inc. to build the Epoch Reference Design, a board-level solution complete with software, to demonstrate the use of the MUSIC Semiconductors' Epoch device in a networking application. As a supplier of silicon networking solutions to major OEMs, MUSIC Semiconductors will launch the Epoch Reference Design at Networld Interop in Las Vegas May 9-11 in Booth 6727. MUSIC Semiconductors will be demonstrating the use of the Music Semiconductors Epoch device in a networking application at the event. Epoch is a multi-layer switch-on-a-chip that performs packet processing at Layers 3 and 4 of the protocol stack at 1.4M packets per second. The Epoch Reference Design is the first in a series of reference designs that the Wind River Services business unit will create for MUSIC Semiconductors. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. "We recognize that our customers desire a complete box-level solution that combines hardware and software to speed time-to-market," said Dave Feldmeier, vice president of technology and chief technical officer for MUSIC Semiconductors. "We chose Wind River to build the Epoch Reference Design, complete with software, because we believe in working with the best. Wind River is the market leader in software for embedded systems and it has existing networking products in software that are complementary to MUSIC's switching devices. Wind River has the experience building reference designs, both the hardware and the software, which means one-stop shopping for both MUSIC Semiconductors and the customer who utilizes the technology in the reference design." Feldmeier added that one part of the alliance between the two companies is a first for both. "The Epoch switch will be among the first multi-layer switches to work with Wind River's Tornado(R) for Managed Switches product." "Wind River's primary goal is to help get our customers to market quickly with a reliable, innovative product," said Kamran Sokhanvari, vice president and general manager for Wind River Services business unit. "Solution products like Tornado for Managed Switches together with our Professional Services capability enable developers to focus on their core competencies and value-add. By combining a Wind River solution product with MUSIC Semiconductors' Epoch switch, we are providing the first in a series of complete, out-of-the-box reference platforms that will make developing innovative networking products a much easier proposition." Other MUSIC Semiconductors' products include packet filters for wired and wireless networks, and Content Addressable Memory (CAM) for address processing in switches and routers.
