How silly to suggest that they were close if one side says they were not. Last time I negotiated something both sides have to agree for an agreement to be effective. The Relatives may have thought they were close. But if they were not complying with the Government then they were indeed not close at all.

There would have been no negotiations necessary, no rescue necessary if they had obeyed the law in the first place.

I recall a song that applies to the Relatives position that might be more aptly titled - "They Broke the Law and the Law Won".

If Clinton/Reno is telling the truth then dozens of other people are lying:

Democrat Senator Graham
- Cuban community vote panderer, he'll say anything. Isn't it funny how this issue transcends party lines when there are votes at stake. Democratic (what's with the Republicanspeak --> Democrat) Sentator Bob Torricelli of New Jersey is another Cuban vote panderer who will say anything, because New Jersey has the 2nd largest Cuban population in the U.S.

Liberal Reno friend Podhurst - Don't know anything about Mr. Podhurst, but if you say so, I'll take your word for it that he's a Reno ally and an unbiased source.

Mayor of Miami - Certainly an unbiased source <sic>

the entire Cuban community in Miami - Every last one of them? Were they all there in the room listening to the telephone conversation?

Elian himself. - Come on. Did Elian really say that?
