<<If Tom Siebel really did say that it's a bigger loss for SAP than Siebel to partner with Clarify, that's the type of Larry Ellison-type comment that I just hate. >>

Tom did not say anything to that effect. What he said was that of all of the competition, Clarify was the most likely to show any chance of making an impact on the market again. He then mentioned that he had heard about an imminent SAP/Clarify partnership.

I'll make this assertion (easy to make since it's unprovable):

It will make no difference to Siebel's revenue or earnings growth if:

1) SAP partnered with Siebel (about as likely as an Oracle/Siebel partnership),

2) SAP partnered with Clarify

3) SAP waited and tried to build their own product

The monsterous Siebel pipeline of 7, 8 and 9 figure deals has NOTHING to do with SAP's disappearing presence in the enterprise space and nothing to do with SAP's frustrated installed base of ERP customers.

Mike trust me. Syborg and TD know the 'inside' scoop on Siebel better than I do. And you know their P&L statements better than I do. I'm just good at reading 'tea leaves' in the CRM market. Between you, TD and Syborg I have an excellent front row seat as to what is going on over in Siebel land. Thanks for all your great info guys. TD please share your wonderful insights more often with us!!

I couldn't agree more.

Last fall you did a small survey as to what was the major deciding factor for choosing companies in which to invest, and my reply was: Management.

Rightly or wrongly, I've never bothered researching ORCL specifically because of what I've read of Ellison. If Seibel gets into a low level pi$$ing contest with SAP, I'll not look as favorably on my investment here, as well.

Speaking of which, I'm going to the EMC Annual Meeting tomorrow, and will get my first in person taste of M. Ruettgers. Am looking forward to it.

Box seat for the Sox & Tigers tomorrow night as well (courtesy of an EMC threadmate). Should be a good day.

Marc

Edit: I just read on through the thread (which I usually do before responding), and it appears that T.S.'s comments may have been misconstrued or out-of-context. Hopefully this is the case.
