Kemble re: Do we really think they could turn this around in a quarter? Perhaps by the third or fourth quarter we'll see some results...

Europe along with other issues such as those brought up by Mort Topfer are already factored into the company guidance. There is nothing new here. +30% growth in a company as large as Dell is just fine for me and there are reasons to expect an upside as MSFT and INTC product cycles are continued. :)

Dell's outlook for Europe to come in line with their growth and market share elsewhere is the main point. Dell has said that their marketing methods when properly applied work everywhere (meaning that they weren't applied in Europe and needed the right team, with the right training). I share your confidence in Paul Bell as he has shown success in Dell's European small business effort. I expect Dell will not miss with this management change one way or another.

Thanks for your continued positive and constructive thoughts.

Best, Mike

Re China:
The important thing here is the concept and the vision.
Looking and planning ahead has certainly done wonders for Dell over the past 5 years(G). Without vision little gets accomplished.
What is the next step for a majority of disadvantaged Chinese?
The auto would be a much dersired device, at a cost of $7 to 35K with few roads and lack of petrol. Financially out of reach at this time , IMO
Family washing machines at a cost of 300 to 1000 ? . Useful but not entertaining, especially for young people. Nobody ever got anything out of one except what was put into it. Begin there with laundromats, much less costly.
But for the same price- a computer, that intriguing audio visual device that the entire family can use, which
incites youngsters to learn to write and communicate and learn a trade which can lead to a move out of poverty.
Capability for on-line trading which again represents at
least a chance (however slim) to improve ones position in life.
