Delta to Acquire North Dakota Production

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2000--Delta Petroleum Corporation (NASDAQ: DPTR)(FRANKFURT STOCK EXCHANGE: DPE) ("Delta") and Whiting Petroleum Corporation ("Whiting") have entered into a letter agreement whereby Delta will acquire certain producing interests from Whiting for $11,180,000 and 90,000 shares of restricted common stock of Delta.

The interests are primarily located in the Eland and Stadium Fields, Stark County, North Dakota. Current production net to the interests being acquired by Delta is approximately 700 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The agreement further provides that the parties shall enter into a definitive Purchase and Sale Agreement by June 1, 2000.

Delta is an oil and gas exploration and development company based in Denver, Colorado. Delta has producing properties in Oklahoma's Anadarko Basin, Colorado's Piceance and D-J Basins, New Mexico's Permian Basin, California's Sacramento Basin, South Texas, one producing federal unit and four undeveloped units located in federal waters offshore California.
