We're six months away from election day. Will the current administration risk losing the White House by triggering a market slide?

Not that I think the following is Greenspan's primary consideration, but Bush blamed AG's monkeying with the interest rates for his loss to Clinton. If these rate increases continue, then AG would be OK politically either way:

Gore wins and AG proves interest rates not to be the reason for Bush's downfall

or

Bush wins and AG is not in the President's dog house b/c he treated both elections the same.

My point is that I don't think the elections are a negative for AG. Besides, what can the White House do to stop AG now that he is reappointed?
