The TWSE Index fell 218.75, or 2.5 percent, to 8420. Political worries also weighed on stocks after the United Daily News reported Chinese fighter jets have flown past the center- divide line of the Taiwan Strait on several occasions to provoke the Taiwanese air force.

[World DRAM Price] DRAM Spot Prices Rebound, Show Upward Trend May 3, 2000 (TOKYO) -- The spot prices for 128Mb DRAMs increased in Europe, Asia and North America, according to a world survey by ICIS-LOR. Intel Corp. disclosed its view on the promising PC market for 2000 in its settlement accounts for the first quarter of 2000. The only semiconductor experiencing a glut was the 128Mb DRAM, but it is likely to be in short supply again. A world survey on DRAM prices by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston and Singapore, showed the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) for large-lot users were US$14.20 in North America, US$12.06 in Europe and US$13.50 in Asia from March 16 to April 14, 2000. In comparison with the preceding week (30-day rolling average up to April 7), North America remained unchanged, Europe decreased by 4.45 percent and Asia remained unchanged. As for the prices of memory modules, the spot prices of 128MB dual inline memory modules (DIMMs, PC133) rose 6.13 percent to US$94.59 in North America, by 2.54 percent to US$98.34 in Europe and by 2.21 percent to US$92.48 in Asia. nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com
