LRR, If E wants to believe in abortion for convenience, or birth control, that is her business. The small segment where I referred to abortion was just that, a small part of the whole. I disagree with convenience abortion but, as you well know, I have not made a federal case out of it, and it was not the impetus that caused me to get involved. My first response to one of her posts to PROLIFE was to register my complaint about the names, and comments of mental incompetence, and instability, she was slinging at him as if they were facts, instead of just her opinion. That is when the discussion got "down and dirty".

I do not, and did not, question anything about her belief in her position on abortion. I never represented that as an issue in my entrance into the discussion. As far as the beliefs advance by PROLIFE not making good sense, that again is nothing more than a matter of opinion. Anyone can say all they want to about the finding of scientists but, I saw something on a newscast this afternoon, that a long held belief by scientists has been proven wrong, and another theory has been proposed. It brought to mind that this sort of reversal by the scientific, and medical, communities which causes them to make such admissions about every 2 or 3 months. The main thing I say about this, is that we will all find out the truth in the end. Until then, opposing sides can argue until moon really does turn into green cheese, the world becomes flat, and the sun revolves around the Earth, and absolutely nothing will be settled.

I don't punch people who send reasonable posts, so don't duck. ~H~

No one on this thread, I'll warrant, has known personally as many mentally retarded people as I have, and no one (unless there are professionals here in the field; I am not that) has had as much exposure, I'll warrant, to the particularities, or the range of particularities, of the way the minds of people categorized as "mentally retarded" work.

There are levels and degrees of mental retardation.

There are mentally retarded people who can read and write and who may appear perfectly normal -- I should say "average," -- until some conceptual challenge arises. It is in this situation that their impairment declares itself.

However, I know none who maintain a marriage and a house and a pet and operate a computer.

PROLIFE is not, it is clear, "mentally retarded," and I apologize to him for having suspected it aloud.

Not all people who are conceptually impaired are retarded. But not all people who appear to be conceptually impaired are in fact actually impaired. In some cases the distortion reflects a strategic choice, not an impairment.

A point I have made a number of times.

It is pretty much self-evident that those are the choices, when distortion, or possibly incomprehension, is so consistent.

At least those are the only ones I can think of.
