i think almost all of that must have been income tax payments. With all the turnover in this market there must have been huge amounts of capital gains due. So it didn't mean that much of it was going into stocks--though maybe enough to puff the bubble for a week or two.

Joan, apparently the money market outflows were related to tax payments and meeting margin calls, as Les has pointed out to me. doesn't matter...it's a lot less 'sidelines' money for WS to count on.
