There are 10 or so holidays, and 260 or so week days in a year, so after a year your MA would show 50 periods, while a true weekly chart would show 52 periods.

I doubt it makes that much of a difference as far as entries or exits, but some people might disagree.

I think the reason people insist on true weekly is that there are weekly patterns in the stock market. But you'd have to ask someone who does that kind of analysis to be sure.
