There is more detailed info about the NT/Clarify - SAP deal at biz.yahoo.com

Bosco - I don't think there would be much argument that SAP needed something like the Clarify/NT deal pretty badly. It will be interesting to see if SAP management can now perform.

It is my understanding that John Roth plans to use NT network expertise as a tool to integrate NT into the core businesses of its customers. Networks will be the critical universal component if you think of the future in terms of businesses, customers, suppliers, internet devices and databases all connected and inter-connected through LAN's, WAN's and public networks.

NT can now profit top-down by providing the products and services the carriers need to provide quality service to their customers. The Clarify/SAP deal allows NT bottom-up access to profits from a new market while solidifying current customer relationships.

Hardware and bandwith is subject to future commoditization. Roth seems to believe that value-added, intensely customer-focused services will be the smartest bet for future profits. NT network expertise and open IP will be the enablers for NT profits from every potential piece of hardware and service that is provided over a network.

If the network is going to be the lifeblood for integrating data and services for competitive businesses in the future NT seems to be positioning itself for profiting, not only from the network, itself but all the essential components that are hanging on the network. The strategy is basically one of an infinite money-making machine based on synergistic customer and partner relationships.

Despite SAP's current management woes, access to SAP customers and employee expertise brings a lot to the table for NT. The SAP/Clarify deal seems to be a good foundation building move for NT and SAP but I'm not expecting to revisit the issue of whether or not I should hang on to my SEBL shares for some time.;) - peggylynn
