NEW YORK, May 3 (Reuters) - Multimedia and merchandising giant Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. on Wednesday reported higher first-quarter earnings, beating Wall Street expectations, amid revenue growth in its publishing unit and its Internet/Direct Commerce unit.

The company, run by home entertainment magnate Martha Stewart, said it earned $5.6 million, or 11 cents a share, in the quarter, compared with adjusted pro-forma earnings of $3.4 million, or 7 cents a share, for the first quarter of 1999.
