I woke up in the middle of the night last night? Thinking? (Do you ever wake up in the night NOT thinking?) Actually, it was fighting kitties that woke me up. I remember now. Those guys are so funny ~ like they have anything to fight about. "You're in my spot." "Oh yah?" But man, they set up howling and screaming and crying ~ it sounds like they got their tail caught in a mini black yard hole and are being sucked in. "How would you both like to get your heads smacked together?" Have you ever seen them run when they're really scared? How fast they can go? I think it's faster than a human. Way faster. In a car even. But they're only an inch off the ground. The one last night was a grey longhair, and he looked like a super fast tribble. A hockey slapshot. A laser dust mop. He did enlarged Brownian motion between the shed and the porch and the fence, like a pinball. Covered major distance; but without a good plan. Almost got tired before he figured out where to go. "I need to stop and think." It's like they can't do that at the same time. They throw their feet out so far forward and back, that they're down right to the ground. They slink down. Like a pit stop at Daytona, when they drop the jack and the car takes off. (I really enjoy it when they do this on linoleum, because it's makes a great scratching noise, and you can watch them peel out going nowhere.) I like to see them move that fast anyway, because most of the time they're not doing anything. For weeks at a time. That gets to bug me. But it's like you finally hit the Start button. "Oh! There he goes." "I don't know what was holding him up, but he's moving fine now."
