Hi Scott,
(market in general)
I agree, in ignoring broad trends can be very painful. I think buying @ support & selling @ resistance or if support breaks is very important. Right now I'm probably 90% invested (as opposed to 100% cash a week or two ago), in that the stocks I'm watching are both forming higher bottoms...so if one waits for the broad market to turn, then they can be chasing their winners. If support breaks then, I'm out with little damage & will buy again later.

Personally I don't use the A/D line to judge the market, so I don't find it too useful (maybe I just don't know how to use it : )

The institutions are buying the stocks that have merit, in that you'll notice they are up on a down day, as well as they are forming a higher bottom...my guess is that they are also the 1st to recover...BWDIK?

That is all from me about this subject as there are other threads for this...sorry VDer's.

Best of Luck,

Where'd He Go?
