Each country has different laws and different cultures. The way we want our laws respected we should respect theirs. In India, 8 year old girls are allowed to marry 60 year old men. Most of us don't agree and probably find it outrageous, yet it is their culture and we accept it.

If Elian is property of the state, as you suggest, it is still NONE of our business. That is how they choose to live so we should also Respect that.

NB - If Elian is "Property of Cuba", then wouldn't the mother be considered a criminal, even by our standards, since she allegedly stole something which did not belong to her?
