Scumbria, > I can't imagine how AMD could be much more aggressive in their plans than they have been. What amazes me is that they have been producing bulletproof products on such a short time scale. As fast as they are turning new things out, it is remarkable that there have been no major bugs. The Dirk Meyer dinner was less than one year ago! K7 was just a foil in May 1999. We need to keep our perspective. If it were Intel, the product wouldn't even be released for another five years ;^) > I agree with you on all the points. AMD's execution for the last twelve months if not more, has been super given the limited resources it has and the obstacles it had to endure. Only serious faults with AMD if any were not meeting rumored timelines or timelines some (including me) aspire to see -- but this is too much to ask from this company at this time which is still in a precarious position of moving to new products requiring infrastructure changes and a new fab. IMHO, AMD not being aggressive in making their own motherboards or coming with aggressive roadmap with chipsets, is to do with its strategy. The killer instincts especially the ones that mirror Intel's tactics do not go hand in hand with the strategy selected by AMD. I believe AMD has elected a strategy (rightfully so) where it would like to see the bargaining power shift from suppliers(AMD) to buyers (OEMs) and Athlon supporting component manufacturers. This is diametrically opposite to Intel's strategy (ex: Intel's plan of capturing 80% of Intel CPU mother board market). This is why, AMD had no problems in being a partner of the BtoB Internet exchange for components that was recently started by HP, Compaq, GTW, etc. I have high confidence that in the long run AMD will succeed with its strategy, but in the mean time it may have to let go some opportunities that are not compatible with its direction. By the by, today's market action spooked me - I sold my AMD shares @ $87 3/8 at the close of the market today. Actually placed the order to sell @87 1/4 but the order was filled at $87 3/8. I will get back into AMD position tomorrow, or day after, depending on how Dow and Naz do next two days. I'm hoping to buy back my shares or some call options at bargain prices before they take off.
