Lee, if a monopoly is found to benefit the consumer why would any freely elected gov't choose to tamper with its' DNA when its' existence is benign.

Your definition of Monopoly from the dictionary is similar to the definition many other words, such as Death. Their are many types of death and they all have different meanings and ramifications on society, a few examples are, homicidal, accidental and natural death. The law and society looks upon each type of death differently and the same should be true for monopolies. This might not have been the best example but I am sure you got the gist of my contentions.
