This is all about Castro. The reason the nun changed her mind about Elian was because the grandmothers wanted to defect. Something that I bet Juan would like to do.

What an idiotic thing to say. I do not choose to be a "slave" and I do not demand others think as I do. I do, as a parent, expect to have the right to decide how my children be raised until they are capable of being independent.

I do not believe that Juan sees himself as a slave either, whatever we might think. BUt it seems that you are demanding that Juan follow "your" way or lose his son. Or that Elian be allowed to make the choice independently regardless of his father's wishes. Or that our courts take a child from a parent because we do not believe he should be raised under Castro.

I do not believe a six your old is capable of the abstract thought necessary to make the kind of distinctions necessary for this kind of decision. Was it you who said that he might not be able to verbalize them, but he knew "America good, Cuba bad"?

I laughed when I read that. Children of six are still thinking magically. They are not little adults. They think Cotton candy- good, broccoli bad. TV good, bed bad! They have no sense of time or consequences.
They have parents for a good reason.
We disagree on a very fundamental level, and there is no sense in continuing. We've exhausted it, I think. You will not convince me with your cold belief that denies the need for parental love, or the right of a parent to his own child, and I will never convince you because you do not believe parents should have those rights, or that any belief but yours has validity.
