Not sure where you are getting your info from re:SDLT being late. Not really a concern, IMO. ADIC drives operate with many technologies as shown in this recent PR:

March 28th PR
adic.com

"We know that storage systems are evolving rapidly, so we designed the Scalar 100 to support different tape technologies easily. The first products support DLTtape-and
models with LTO Ultrium, AIT, and Super DLT drives are on the horizon. We made it small enough and low in cost so that it could be a natural next step up for users who have outgrown autoloaders, but also serve larger data needs by scaling up to almost 5TB of capacity. And since connectivity preferences are changing rapidly, we designed it to support SCSI, SAN and NAS options-it is the first tape storage system designed to make those choices available in the same platform."

The Scalar 100 models shipping today support up to six DLT tape drives and up to 60 tape cartridge positions in only 14 units of standard rack space (less than 25 vertical
inches). This gives the Scalar 100 the highest density tape storage in the industry-50% greater than previous DLT libraries-allowing IT departments to conserve expensive data center space.......

Also, the LTO drive from IBM is a leap ahead technology, according to the PR that was generated by IBM. Here is some info from the ADIC/IBM JV announcement.

IBM and ADIC Sign OEM, Strategic Business Relationship Agreement

SAN JOSE, CA and REDMOND WA . . . Nov. 30, 1999. . . IBM and Advanced Digital
Information Corporation (NASDAQ: ADIC) officially announced a technology partnership
agreement combining the new IBM StorageSmart Ultrium Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape
drives and ADIC storage products.

The OEM agreement calls for ADIC to provide IBM with a range of tape storage devices that will incorporate the IBM StorageSmart Ultrium tape drive. Covered under this OEM
agreement are several categories of automated tape storage devices, including single-drive autoloaders and multiple-drive tape libraries based on ADIC's FastStor and
Scalar 100 architectures.....

......The new LTO technology-based drives store up to 100 GB per tape cartridge, up to twice the capacity of currently available technology--and transfer data rates at up to double the rate of current generation tape drives......

Sleep easy.
