A feature that I have long wanted would be 'remember this post.' By 'remembering' the post you would have a folder that would have links (and possibly user supplied notes) that you could come back to later.

Something like this would solve at least part of the problem you mentioned. If you remembered the post and then read a PM, you could come back to the same place. And update your subjectmark from there.

I often find myself noting something of interest in a post and thinking, 'humm, I'll come back later for that link she mentioned.' Meanwhile, I continue reading the thread, and the memory of the post slips away into ether..

As you say, doing the check on the 'reading 10 at a time' might be a reasonable solution to the subjectmark not lining up exactly with where you are in the thread.
