Part of what is happening in California is that the
premier law firms that handle anti-trust, intellectual
property, licensing, etc. for Silicon Valley companies
can't retain their associate lawyers because they keep getting hired away by the companies and the lure of options.

Just recently there was a spate of increases in associate salaries by the law firms to try and keep the lawyers on board. Amazing salaries for first year lawyers who really don't know how to do anything yet.

The East Coast firms then had to increase salaries to keep up.

how information technology (productivity?) is pushing attorney's wages HIGHER.

Heck, ain't no profession more productive than lawyers. They bill 28 hours in a day!<g>
