hi sapper,

i could answer that if it pertained to netscape's email client, messenger. in fact, it took me awhile to discover how to do just that with messenger.

but i don't use outlook. so we'll have to wait for the good troops to arrive with their answers for you!

If you SINGLE click on a message header, it does not open (unless you have the Preview Pane enabled - see below) it is simply selected. At this point you can 1) drag it to the Deleted Items folder 2) click the delete button on the toolbar 3) Click File->Delete 4) Press Delete on the keyboard 5) Right-click then select Delete 6) etc...

However, if you have the Preview Pane enabled your email will automatically be opened into the Preview window when you select it. I'm not sure how these email viruses work and doubt if you can get a virus without actually opening any attachments but if you are worried, you can turn off the Preview Pane. The command is probably located in the View menu. (I'd give you the exact clickstream but I don't have Outlook Express installed here.) Once you have disabled the Preview Pane you can safely select the offending message header with a SINGLE click and then delete it using one of the methods above.
