Both firms have done pretty well this week (abx +13%, nem +18%)

Exception to your observation: Placer Dome is up over 20%, and they have as much hedged as Barrick. (9.3 vs. 9.8)

Ken,

While I agree an unhedged miner gives the most upside reward, I wouldn't judge moves to quickly. It may well be based on current stock price ONLY. There are those "investing" in this market which pour money into the highest priced issue in any sector, without regard to any other factor, when that sector begins a move.

I believe it was PDG who announced in February that they
were ceasing their forward hedging practice
and would slowly unwind their short positions. Correct me if you think I got it wrong.
