This has been a fairly common pattern of late. My theory is that it's the big money going to lunch, thus taking some of their selling pressure out of play for a couple of hours. It's the lunch-time lull in reverse: instead of the market drifting lower while institutional buyers take time out for lunch, we drift higher while the institutional sellers take time out for lunch.
