>I have always maintained that a "bad deal is better than a good fight" (of course, within
limits).<
Here is a little poem I learned as a child- it sounds like you might like it:
Here lies the Grave of John O'shay
who died maintaining his right of way
His cause was right
his will was strong
But he's just as dead
as if he'd been wrong

I grant you it doesn't apply to the really big struggles of humanity. But it sure applies to the little ones.

I believe that we have "Created our own Monster" We should have stopped the Embargo long ago..It is destroying and
dividing the Cuban People..and only harms the common citizen..Do you think Castro is suffering?? Nein' stop it now.. The Elian saga' is a great catalyst. My Physician
is A Cuban who came down out of the Mountains with Castro'
and he is absolutely furious that we are returning Elian to
Cuba..Good example of this division...

Tazio,

It is ONLY when reasonable people using COMMON SENSE that the stupidity of narrow-minded, self-serving, hypocritical politicians can be eradicated.

Why do we have relations with China, yet we refuse Cuba? Why does our government support one dictator while bombing another? Why do we call one military group "Freedom Fighters", while another similar group is labeled "terrorists"?

It is time Wise citizens responded and regained control from the political dictatorship that we too are living in.

<<Now if the public decides that this change should take effect, they will create enough pressure on their corresponding representatives to bring this about. --more like "Changing the current representatives".>>

While I think that the public would agree with your arguments about lifting the embargo, they don't care enough to create any pressure. Just too many
other priorities. They might be pleased to see the embargo lifted, but wouldn't go out of their way to make it happen. The impetus will have to come from somewhere
else. Perhaps the business community as you say.

<<Indeed, the Cuban exile group is to the Cuban cause (i.e. lifting the
embargo), what the religious right is to the
Republican party ! ---> They are both extremists, and there is no
possibility to encounter a "middle ground".>>

I agree that there is a parallel. One difference I see, though, is that the religious right fervently advocates far right candidates even though they must know that choosing one will cost them the general election. On the other hand, I doubt the exiles realize that their position is counterproductive. Their hatred of Castro is so great that they can't think straight.

<<I do not understand it.>>

I don't either. No "enlightened self interest" in play in the extremist camps.

Tazio, I found this item in the Miami Herald about legislation to ease the embargo. Thought you might be interested.
