I decided to do a little data manipulation on the semi-
equips based on yesterday's closing prices, recent
consensus earnings and projected long term growth rates.
The data is presented below.

Strange things happen in the market on any given day! The
stock, KLIC, in first place in the table had the largest
decrease in value yesterday, down 12.2 percent. CMOS, in
second place in the table, was down five percent. KLIC is
selling for a next year's PE of 13, while CMOS is selling
for 29. There is a difference in long term growth rate of
18 versus 24 percent, but this wouldn't seem to be enough
to cause this kind of price disparity.

Donald, I have been unable to find any information on the S&P Semiconductor Equipment Index. I would surmise it is a weighted index, with AMAT being a large component, based on how it seems to have a strong correlation to AMAT's movements. Personally, I prefer as a reference an unweighted index, since as an investor I am not going to hold more AMAT than COHU, simply because AMAT has a much bigger market cap. (Actually I don't even own AMAT, but that is another issue). One of these days YAHOO will have more information on the index, I hope.
