Kash,
Transitions can be tough. Let's hope there is at least cheap RAM available unlike what Intel did <G>
Intel also supported the slocket to make the transition to socket 370 easier. AMD take notice...

Kash re <<And now the Kx133 is severly delayed ans still only available in limited volumes.>>

I don't think that is true any more. For example pricewatch has 21 pages of listing under the KX133 category. Also pretty much all the vendors now have a KX133 MB.

Re <<If their aren't large volumes of socketed MBs coming soon for Spitfire we will likely miss quarter. >>

This quarter (Q2) is already in the bag, the risk is with regard to next quarter. The street is well aware of this risk, otherwise AMD would be trading much higher. No?

Kash,

Speaking of the Via chipset (I am not sure if it applies to both KX-133 or the Intel based 133A), but there was a report somewhere (maybe on Tom's site) that UDMA-66 wasn't working that well. I think it didn't work any better than UDMA-33.

Kash - RE: "If their aren't large volumes of socketed MBs coming soon for Spitfire we will likely miss quarter. We are already 50% of way thru quarter by end of next week."

In the shareholders meeting question and answer, Jerry was confident AMD could beat last Qs numbers w/1.8M Athlons. He more than likely knew of the chipset problems when he said that. AMD just probably won't smother the current estimate of $1.11 like they did in Q4 and Q1.

I think that your concerns are overblown and misplaced. There would only be a problem if AMD is sold-out of k75 parts and KZ133 boards are not available in volume. Even then there is a fall back strategy of using IG sockets. AMD has a ton of K75 wafers and KZ133 chipset is ramping.

So relax and enjoy your gains.

Kap

PS. I would be concerned if I was a VIA investor. They may have to write-off a bunch of KX133 chipsets.

Kash,

<I think the risk is indeed in the chipset/MB side.>

There are also some risk on the ASP side if Intel phases out Celeron fast and pushes Timna aggressively at the low-end.
