Hitachi is a very large and rich company, with VERY deep pockets. I doubt that is an issue.

I think it is more a Japanese thing. The Japanese have always had a group mentality about issues and I think they just want to create more of an East vs West issue out of this.

I agree with what your saying...

There is usually a single defendant in patent cases. The other companies look to the outcome of the case in determining their own positions. A case with too many thieves is too confusing for the court which has some difficulty with patent cases anyway.

So the outcome of the Hitachi case will set the precedent for settlement with other companies. Now some of them may decide not to settle and there may be further patent law suits and ITC cases.

It looks to me that Rambus is doing fine with their legal strategy.
