I find it very much like the urban legend that one cannot legally short OTC-BB stocks (in the USA). These people simply cannot (or will not) take the time and trouble to go to the SEC site and read the actual regulations.

FWIW, BB stocks can be legally shorted in the USA. The regulations that cover shorting currently apply only to the national, regulated markets (NASDAQ, NYSE & AMEX). The real problem in shorting BB stocks is in finding a broker that will permit you to do it. Most brokerages do not permit the practice, not from a legal standpoint, but from the standpoint of risk (not to the investor, but to the brokerage).

Yet these people still "cite" regulations about illegal BB shorting. Makes me laugh...

PS - I don't engage in shorting (or options), not because of the disdainful image of shorts, but because of the extraordinary risks involved (when and if you're wrong).
