<...how brilliant they were to design and implement this technological and cost-effective wonder, and how incredibly inept they are at the nuts and bolts of marketing and operating the business.> People should NOT be bamboozled by technical geeks. While 3rd order partial differential equations require a certain amount of methodology, it's not a patch on getting customers to sign on the bottom line. The assumption people make is that anyone can sell. They can't! The failure is less spectacular, directly causal, or traceable to a miscalculation than a crashed satellite, so somewhat less conspicuous but the effect is just as fatal.

Kepler's orbitl equation is a simplistic joke. So is much of the space-junk business. Even CDMA is just a deterministic bunch of boring photon phragmenters feeding some silicon 19um single-lane voltages. Getting cash flow in the presence of red-blooded irrational exuberance is much more tricky. As we now see.

Anyway, Globalstar hired the brains to make the CDMA work. They just supplied the chicken-wire and bubble-gum to hold it together. But they had the sense to get Vodafone and co. to do the marketing. Vodafone and other service providers are the main guilty parties as far as marketing goes.

Also, Bernie is an accountant, not a technical geek, unlike Irwin Jacobs who is everything rolled into one. Irwin is right now lining up to score another $400m in vendor fianancing with warrants convertible to stock. At these share prices, I dare say QUALCOMM's share of Globalstar LP is going to take a major step up. Probably towards 20%!

No wonder it's taking a while to negotiate. It must be driving Bernie nuts!
