From Algety's site, an interesting statement about their ability to use narrow wdm spacings, a topic that was discussed here recently. From:

Capable of operating with single-mode or dispersion-compensated fiber, soliton modulation allows signals to be transmitted over far longer distances before amplification and regeneration. The technique has also been refined to allow the technology to work with narrower channel spacings than today's standards - additionally allowing links to benefit from much greater spectral efficiency.

On another note, wasn't Corvis boasting just about a month ago that they didn't see a need to IPO for a while, due to the last large round of financing that they received?

Thanks for pointing this out. I would seem that soliton technology (I believe that is what Algety uses) is still popular.
