<<you would be behind the State taking control of your children and as their father that would be your privilege and your decision is noble>>
You misunderstood my point what I am trying to say is that as someone whose family is in Afghanistan I may be under duress or brain washed completely to take my kids back to that hellhole. Certain things for me are absolute, one of them being right of free speech and right of free expression. If any state denies to their citizen that right has no legitimacy. The doctrine of necessity suggests that innocent and those who are under tyranny should not be handed over to intolerant and rogue states. Thousands of dissidents have escaped death through this route. Where in this world a whole city was kept captive and those who tried to escape were machine-gunned, it was Berlin under communists. Similarly, Cuba keeps its citizens chained to its primitive undemocratic system. This is the whole philosophy of political asylums, here Master Elian, a young boy needs all our comprehension. A child who cannot decide for himself has the right of asylum from the tyranny of its mother state and its manifestations like his father

<<<<... In this case Elian's father is actively attempting to get him back... a selfish decision? >>

Not only his father even Mr Castro is trying to get him back by politicising the whole issue. It is all about being one up on US social fabric. Nice to see for a change someone going back to Cuba instead of constant flow of people fleeing it. Will give him some satisfaction that an innocent 6 year old decided to come back to live in Cuba. A sweet return for his hard labour of 40 years of taking Cuba to stone age.

It is like winning medals in Olympics with steroids in 70's by these communist nations to show that what a revolution they have brought in the social structures of their countries. In an effort to fool the world of their achievements they made human steroid clones to participate in Olympics. Their athletes were best in the world but once random checks by OIC were in place we found out that their athletes were poor human guinea pigs. This is gimmickry at its best to score quick points on what is a very sad human drama. By the way many people in 60's were singing praises of the system which collpased in 90's, free people should not be sent to closed societies that is what I think. Thanks and best regards to you.
