Orchid lists as its competitors in the area of SNP scoring as Affymetrix, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Genometrix, Luminex, Nanogen, PE Corp., Rapigene, Sequenom, Third Wave, and Visible Genetics. In the area of Pharmacogenomics...Celera, CLONTECH, CuraGen, Genaissance, GENSET, Millennium, Myriad, and Variagenetics. In the area of DNA testing...Identagene, Laboratory Corp. of America and Lifecodes. And in the area of microfluidics, ACLARA, and Caliper. --if I hadn't read the prospectus (well, some of it anyway) I'd have loaded up. Of course the human genome is mind boggling, plenty of room for quite a few players I think--and the area of genetic diversity is googleplex huge. One wonders if ten or 20 years from now big pharma will dare develop drugs without having done a lot of pharmacogenetics studies, and I'll bet that in my lifetime drugs are prescribed only after they look at your snips.
