That graph would be funnier if it didn't hit so close to home, in my younger days, of course<G>......

Moderated threads... Agree with UF. So we get some clown. I could have put several people on my ignore list earlier, but I didn't. That's my problem, especially since the solution is only a couple of clicks away. I don't see the need for UF (or anybody else) to "help" me by barring someone from the thread since I can do the job quite adequately by myself with the "ignore" feature.

Also, I'd rather err on the side of wasting some time trying to persuade someone than cutting off the debate prematurely.

Imagine the thread bloat that the endless discussion of whether UF is "justified" in revoking the posting privileges of a particular person would cause. Probably more than we get handling a clown as we do now.

Shunning is very effective. Quoting Spider Robinson... "Anyone you ignore utterly will eventually go away". At most, UF (and perhaps other thread elders) could "recommend" that we stop responding to a particular person, but even that's unnecessary. We're all presumably capable of deciding such a thing for ourselves.

I would mention that nobody is required to respond to someone who is being obnoxious. It often means NOT getting the last word, but in the most recent case, it was clear who the adults were and who the pompous clown was. Walking away is hard, but quite satisfying in my experience.

Now, equipping all new cars with twin 50 cal. machine guns that would allow me to "express myself" when some idiot is doing something STUPID on the road...that's an innovation I could go for (told with the tongue so far in the cheek that it comes out the vulgar body opening)...

Erick

P.S. It's great to have a place to be un-edited...

Perfect! Here's a political story that will stoke freeus's fires:

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a liberal Democrat. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were liberal Democrats too. Not really knowing what a liberal Democrat was but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a liberal Democrat."

"Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?"

"Why I'm a proud Libertarian," boasts the little girl. The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Libertarian.

"Well, I was brought up to trust in myself instead of relying on an intrusive government to care for me and do all of my thinking. My Dad and Mom are Libertarians, and I am a Libertarian too."

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your Mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"

A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be a liberal Democrat.
