Conexant Unveils Single-Chip Modem

Conexant Systems Inc recently launched SmartSCM, a single-chip modem, that they claim is the world's first. According to the company the modem has all the functions necessary for quickly and inexpensively incorporating global Internet connectivity into a broad range of Internet appliances (IA). Combined on a single device is a modem controller, random access memory (RAM) and a universal silicon data access arrangement (silicon DAA) telephone-network interface. Gerald Hamilton, director of Hong Kong/China sales, Conexant Asia Pacific said that SmartSCM will make it even easier for Asian manufacturers to deliver dial-up modem connectivity capabilities in a range of products including handheld devices, video game consoles and other home applications.

The solution is offered in versions that support the industry standard V.32 bis, V.34 or V.90 modem modulations. The silicon DAA eliminates the need for countryspecific modem board configurations. This enables the manufacturer to bundle a single modem solution into their products and then program them for use with any phone system in the world. The solution is available in a 128-lead thin quad flat pack (TQFP), a complete reference design.

Wonder if CXNT makes those hard to find tuners.
