John,

Thanks, I assume that the figures you gave we in number of shares and not in dollars. Is it correct? When calculating UMC's value to alsc do you have to also calculate the value of the dollar to the taiwan money? Do they have any other holdings that are still private? What is the total value of the public firms?

In all due respect, you need to do some of your own due diligence. I think you should immediately recognize that I reported share amounts of the equity holdings in public companies. UMC shares are converted from NTD to USD, not the other way around. The total dollar figures amount to about USD $1.5 billion. Fully diluted these equities are worth over $35.00 per share.

UMC..................>$1,000,000,000
Charter....................$142,320,000
Broadcom.................$86,770,000
Vitesse......................$51,865,000

The interests in the other 18 or so privately held companies were not disclosed during the c.c. Perhaps you could take a look at the annual report and summarize these holdings for us. They include...

2 IP companies
5 telecom networking box makers
3 silicon/integrated circuit manufacturers
8 software companies
