<temporary solutions while everyone rewrites their legacy applications onto a Web-based environment> what does writing a legacy application onto a web based environment entail? What is a legacy app.
I understand MICrosoft Windoes Office Suite is installed on my computer by downloading from a CD. What would be necessary to make it Web -based,and is this not stealing from IMIcrosoft patent?
Please explain for a layman?
I see CITRIX as an application serving enabler providing software for ASPs to sell ther product.

Heeren,
Could you elaborate on the following?

Everyone talks about 3-tier apps. However, it is important to understand the architectural reasons behind such designs. Separating the presentation, server, and database layers can provide (if the design is correct) better scalibility. It also allows different parts to the system to be upgraded independently of each other. Lastly, it can allow for better security (especially to the database).

Are you saying that the ctxs solution does this, breaks it down into seperate presentation, server and database layers?

Thanks,

-David P.

Heeren,
Could you elaborate on the following you had posted earlier?

Everyone talks about 3-tier apps. However, it is important to understand the architectural reasons behind such designs. Separating the presentation, server, and database layers can provide (if the design is correct) better scalibility.

Why would it be more scalable then the ctxs solution? Also, wouldn't other elements of the chain effect the scalability like the interface or gui, and the protocol. I assume you still need an appropriate protocol to further facilitate the "thin client" feel. Would regular IP be enough? Sorry if my questions don't make total sense. Not a software engineer, learning as I go.

Thanks,
