Bob : Re "I like this chart"

That chart is OK but one can't use it for arbitrage as the various charts are all over the page and bear no obvious relationship to one another.

For arbitrage, the pair of stocks under scrutiny have to keep crossing each other. In that way one is assured that there is a continuous relationship between them and, for this reason, one believes there is every likelihood the charts will cross again in future. If you re-look at the AU, ASA, XAU charts which I presented you will see that that is indeed so.

Re SA and Zimbabwe, I don't want to say too much as I am already very depressed and disappointed about what is going on. The situation can only get worse --- and it will.

However, our original discussion was about arbitraging two SA companies, ASA and AU, both of which should be similarly effected by adverse, or whatever, sentiment. Perhaps, in the circumstances, I should not have compared AU to XAU. Anyway, gold production at AU, which is a world-wide operation, will not be effected by Zimbabwe.

Unfortunately, the national strike by COSATU on Wednesday will add to adverse SA sentiment.
