Check this out! After seeing the side by side comparison that Gateway had with equally configured Athlon 750 and PIII 700 I emailed them and asked which one is faster. Here is what I got back. WOW!

It is almost like the rep is either working for AMD or at least a "AMDroid". LOL

Hello Mani,

AMD Athlon is a 7th generation and Intel P111 is a 4-year-old 6th generation.
AMD Athlon has a 200MHz (scalable to 400MHz) and Intel P111 has a 100MHz (133 MHz coming) front side bus. AMD Athlon has L1=128 KB L2=512KB (scalable to 8 MB) the Intel P111 has L1=32KB L2=512 KB cache.
The floating-point unit is superscalar for the AMS Athlon and Single execution for the PIII. AMD Athlon has an enhanced 3Dnow while PIII has SSE, missing 5 DSP commands.

I notice that Select 750 (Athlon) and performance 700 (PIII) are the same price, which one is a faster computer. Which chip is faster Athlon or PIII?
