I don't condone such actions, but what's done is done, and at this point I think he should be canonized for graphically demonstrating the fragility of Microsoft-based systems (while simultaneously condemning the means by which he did it).

Of course, that's JMHO.

I think they ought to have the Death Penalty for this sort of thing.

Information superhighway road rage.

Re: Death Penalty for 15 year old hacker/VBscript student- JDN, you're my compadre and the thought of you having this sentiment horrifies me. I'd rather that you got to vote for GW Bush 50 or 100 times to my vote against than to be of a mind that a teenage prankster should somehow be put to death. I am horrified that you would be quick to point a finger at a kid who could as easily be your nephew, or your paper carrier, or the part time administrator/intern for the ISP you connect to SI through or a future SUNW engineer - all BEFORE pointing a finger at the actual culprit. Do you know who the REAL culprit is? - You! - You're the guy that peels off the thousands for the Windows PC with the "We're being productive, now!" interface designed by focus groups to give you the "Windows experience". You want all this Windows stuff and in the process you sign up for a big trade off, and the big trade off is what you use is shit. Windows is shit, Microsoft ActiveX, VBscript, DCOM, integrated mega macro mofo INNOVATION; (wink wink wink) 'we're cooking with gas now' - look at me I'm some kinda Sandra Dee at the freakin' COMPUTER - at the expense of your security and quality software; at the expense of a model that would have you assume responsibility. --- It is beyond ironic that if "hackers" got the treatment you think they deserve, you would not only not likely have an internet connection, your personal stock portfolio would likely be a *fraction of what it is now. It's scary to think that you don't get it; that you (and others) don't understand that we need MORE kids hacking script like that, both to improve the dynamic security model, but also produce new technologies (innovation) and just administer the technology we already have. --- You're mindset that way is a fertile breeding ground for Columbine after Columbine after Columbine. Trust me on this. This is important to know and worth learning, if for no other reason than as a individual investor in 'high tech'. --- As much of a pain in the ass Dennis the Menace was (or even Jay North in person), Mr. Wilson never wanted to KILL him. --- JDN, if you're going to kill somebody, please kill one of those M$ "right to innovate" phony *adult mofos up in Redmond. Please do not level a weapon at curious kids because Microsoft left YOUR front door wide open. -JCJ

Re death penalty.

The people who spread this are those dumb enough to click on the attachment. It is good that these vulnerabilities have been pointed out in a relatively harmless way, because one day someone will create a truly malicious version that spreads this easily. After Melissa and this, anybody who loses data has only themselves to blame.

<<I personally am very upset about all this. I think they ought to have the Death Penalty for this sort of thing. >>

Sure, why not go back to the death penalty for stealing a loaf of bread? Now, that would be progress!
I hope y'all realize this is sarcastic.
