Hi John Walliker; Yeah, DTL was obsolete in the early 70s. That means that students got to use it in cheap labs in the late 70s.

It was kind of convenient. You didn't have to have a VOM to tell whether a signal was 1 or 0, you could use your fingers if you were reasonably sensitive, sort of like testing 9-volt batteries. It was one stage advanced from RTL, if I remember correctly.
