American Power Conversion's Award-Winning Power Protection to Be Offered By Cisco Systems to Help Ensure Availability
Cisco Offers Smart-UPS(R) for New ICS 7750
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Driven by the need for availability in IP telephony applications, American Power Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC) today announced that Cisco Systems is offering APC's Smart-UPS(R) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in North America to protect Cisco's newly announced Integrated Communications System (ICS) 7750 solution from uncontrollable power disruptions.
This advanced IP telephony system, which is an extension of Cisco's Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID), incorporates the elements needed to deliver converged data, voice and video to enterprise branch offices and mid-sized companies including: multiservice router/voice gateways based on the industry-proven Cisco IOS technology, application servers running core voice applications, call processing software, integrated Web-based system management, and a data switching interface for seamless connectivity to recommended Cisco Catalyst QoS-enabled switches. IP telephony systems require the highest levels of reliability and availability to ensure uninterrupted business productivity. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide IP telephony revenues are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 108.4 percent from 1998 to 2004. The IP telephony market is expected to be nearly $19 billion by 2004.
"We are delighted that Cisco selected Smart-UPS to sell to ICS 7750 customers, helping to increase the availability of this IP telephony solution," said Peter Rumsey, vice president of APC's Enterprise Systems Group. "The advantage of an integrated voice, video and data product is quite compelling and by offering power protection, Cisco is committed to help ensure that its customers realize the full benefits of the ICS 7750."
The compact Smart-UPS 1400, which can be utilized in either a rack or stack configuration, occupies only three U of rack space while its extended run battery pack is two U high. The Smart-UPS 1400 ships with APC's Web/SNMP Management Card which allows network operators to identify potential problems quickly and manage APC devices via Web browsers and industry-leading network management platforms. In addition, APC worked with Cisco to develop an application program interface (API) used by Cisco's Call Manager software to monitor status information of the APC UPS when used with the ICS 7750. This API functions with RS-232 connections or in concert with APC's Web/SNMP Management Card over the network.
