It's also beyond the capability of most DRAM manufacturers. That's part of the problem.

Yes, they seem to expect Intel to buy $20 Billion worth of RDRAM and pass it on in motherboard bundles for $5 Billion. With the exception of some sweetheart deals with Dell, Intel seems to be avoiding that particular temptation.

If it weren't for AMD's current (totally unexpected) performance, Intel could, and probably would be doing just that (subsidizing RDRAM bundles).

But unless AMD screws up, Intel can't afford any RDRAM subsidies right now.

If Intel buys RDRAM, adds a 10% markup for its trouble, and bundles it with a motherboard and CPU, it isn't going to help the cause of RAMBUS sales.
