mr mark, thanks for the help. The Norton help file says a driver can be installed. I'll work on this, but not soon. Gottfried Adding unsupported driver If Rescue Disk's default set of drive adapters does not include the one necessary for your Zip or Jaz drive, Rescue Disk displays an error and creates a ZipAdapter.reg file in the Norton Utilities folder. (The will be a numerical value.) You can use this file to add support for the adapter. If you have more than one zip drive attached to a non-supported adapter, there may be more than one of these files on your system. NOTE: You may get this message even though you can access the Iomega drive under Windows, because in order to boot from your Zip or Jaz disk, you need the real mode drivers for the adapter. Windows normally uses the protected mode drivers. To fix this problem: 1 Get real-mode drivers from the manufacturer of each unsupported adapter over the internet or through their technical support. 2 Copy your CONFIG.SYS file to CONFIG.BAK 3 Install the new drivers per the manufacturer's instructions. 4 Open CONFIG.SYS and CONFIG.BAK in Notepad (or any other text editor) for comparison. Find the device or devicehigh line(s) that has been added to CONFIG.SYS. 5 Select ZipAdapter.reg in Windows Explorer. ( is a number). 6 Right-click and choose Edit to open the file in a text editor. It looks something like this: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\Norton Rescue\3.0\Setup\Zip Adapters\Your Adapter] "L0"=" " "F0"=" " 7 Add the new device information from config.sys into the REG file LO key. If there is more than one new line in the config.sys, you must add one Lx key line in the REG file for each. For example: "L0"="device=xxx.sys" "L1"="device=yyy.sys" 8 Add the driver file name(s) referred to in the LO key to the F0 key. There should be no path. For example: "FO"="xxx.sys" "F1"="yyy.sys" Make sure the REG file ends with an empty line. 9 Save and close the file. It would look like this: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\Norton Rescue\3.0\Setup\Zip Adapters\Your Adapter] "L0"="DEVICEHIGH=SCSIDRV.SYS " "F0"="SCSIDRV.SYS " 10 Copy the driver files into the \Norton Utilities folder. In this example, you would copy xxx.sys and yyy.sys. 11 Double-click the ZipAdapter.reg file in Windows Explorer. The file's information is merged into theregistry automatically. NOTE: If you don't see a message confirming the merge, open the Run dialog from the Start menu and type regedit "c:\program files\norton utilities\zipadapter.reg" (Replace the paths and the * in the .reg file to match your system.) 12 Rename your config.sys to config.old and then rename your config.bak to config.sys to restore your original system file. 13 Run Rescue Disk and the Zip/Jaz drives should appear. NOTE: You can help us improve Rescue by letting us know about your adapter. Please send us the following information: make and model of your adapter, a copy of the ZipAdapter*.reg file(s).
