You could always get Microsoft's new version of Media Player:
microsoft.com

Once installed, let it be your default player. You may have to configure your browser, but try that first.

That's the one I use. I get sick of all these programs I download that want to be my default player. I find I have less hassles with Media Player.

Peach

Go to start/programs/accessories/entertainment and see if windows media player is listed. If it is open it and go to view/options/formats and check the formats that you want played by Media Player. This should change your defaults.

hi peach,

looks like you got plenty of help before i came back.

you ask some good questions, imo, such as "Where is the default sound set". seems that whenever a different player is installed it asks that question, and that is the only way i am aware of at the moment.

from your post i could not tell if you were getting no sound, or just no sound from certain profiles. it's possible that you are having probs that go beyond real player or media player and which is the default. sound probs can be fickle, but then that's true of most pc trouble, isn't it? <g3>

please let us know if the sound issue gets resolved satisfactorily. maybe we should be looking at other things.

good luck

:)
