Monday May 8 11:22 AM ET IBM Offers Two New Pcs NEW YORK (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) on Monday made available two new devices in its NetVista line of pared-down personal computers, as part of a push at IBM to restore its struggling desktop PC business to profitability. The new NetVista personal computer devices, designed to save desktop space and simplify computer use, are part of an industrywide trend toward sleeker designs that focus on Web access over stand-alone personal computing tasks. ``We think computers will fundamentally change in the next three to five years,'' said Brian Dalgetty, director of marketing for desktop computers, IBM Personal Systems Group. He added that the margins are better for the devices than for traditional personal computers. The NetVista X40 all-in-one computer is priced at about $1,799 and will be available in late May. It is about 16 inches, by 16 inches, by 10 inches, making it smaller than the typical home or office computer, with the CD/DVD-ROM drive tucked underneath the monitor. The NetVista S40, which will be available in late June, starting at $699, also is built to save space and has a built-in ethernet capability that simplifies network connections. Some models include an embedded security chip, offering increased security online. ``The integrated security chip embedded in the system allows you to encrypt your e-mail and secure any b-to-b (business-to-business) transactions,'' said Dalgetty.
