SOROS -- I wish your friend well... his guess as to where things will be a year from now are as good as anyone elses. I have been on record as will never have the service but will be difficult to be without the stock.
Your friends idea on email addresses would be fun to see. There could then be 100 million with the same email address and just think what that would do to your PC,,,
AOL has technology to contend with and will be a leader in changes-- they have to be in order to keep that 10 - 20 per month per user coming in. Ask ANY new user or young person what service they want and 99% will say AOL for the content. They have more than a desire to keep their email address but also in contact with their friends.
How about the millions that use AOL to track their stock? They could use MSN with the same or better results and Yahoo is free on any ISP but many like AOL. All the content is under 1 page-- no one has to bookmark anything as it is all in front of them inc when their Buddy is online--- too much un-needed BS for me but many would not do without it.
The free ISPs will soon be dwindleing down as cash goes away and the meager amount received from advertising is not enough to support them. As an advertiser would you spend your money at AOL with 22++ million users or Alta Vista with 2 million? Understand AV was great until they put that ad bar running across the screen and no one reads it but finds it annoying taking up screen space. The only free ISP I have see worth using as a primary or a back up is World Spy. They do not drive you crazy with banners and crap-- less than AOL and hopefully they will be one of the few free ones that survive.
Broadband-- so what? An ISp is still needed and many happily pay AOL the $10 to use with their broadband. This is in some ways a plus for AOL.
I think I'll keep my stock as when those like your friend decide to cover it will be atleast $15 higher this year..

SOROS, that is basically nonsense with some technical words thrown in. 128 bit IP addresses will not cause anything akin to the effect described.

Dear Soros: I think that is wishful thinking by a shorter. The merger with TW will actually vastly improve the content to the AOL subscribers and bring broadband along with it. I dont see this dire forecast developing. JDN

Re: Someone told me this during a recent telephone conversation. Thoughts???

Well, my thought is that your friend did a good job making sure that we hear about his shorting AOL on Monday. I could say it worked but then most of the techs went down.

I could go on and discuss AOL with you but since you don't own any AOL I will save my breath, unless you are interested in buying some AOL? And besides. Some already did discuss your message with you and I did not see any replies. So maybe our thoughts are not really of interest to you?

For whatever this is worth????
