Ken, absolutely right. And I would want the management to think this way as well. If you need milk, just buy a gallon of milk. Don't buy a cow... Or worse yet, don't try to make milk. Industrial history is littered with examples of corporate casualties caused by wrong managerial decisions on this question of buy or make. Boeing does not make its fuselage for their aircraft; Northrop does. Nor do they make their engines, PW does.

If the management's position on not buying CDMA ASICs that are already out there for sale, this is starting to hurt shareholder value severely. Never mind wasting engineering resources, the real problem is being shut out of the most lucrative market at the most opportune time.
