I don't know.

I know many European countries see us as uncivilized, because of capital punishment and our freedom to own and bear arms. I think we are often seen as backward educationally as well. The same kind of provincial thinking seen on this board (America is the BEST place to grow up, yada yada yada) infects a lot of individuals in the rest of the world as well. Nationalism is, and always has been, a very common disease and as far as I know is not restricted to any continent or country. I think that is all this case represents. I think it is a fabulous testament to our way of life if American courts handle these issues more decently, and with more respect for the citizens of other countries- especially citizens whose way of life may be different from our own.

Haven't been monitoring this stupid thread lately so I don't know if anyone has posted this latest outrage. Clinton/Gore trotted out their little trained monkeys Elian and Pop as a little treat for a fat cat democrat fund raiser.

Even you have to find using Elian as fund raising tool 5 or six levels past disgusting.

Elian Gonzalez and his family left their secluded retreat in Maryland on Saturday to visit the home of prominent Democratic Party benefactors in Washington's Georgetown neighborhood.

Elian, the 6-year-old Cuban castaway who has become the focus of a heated battle over his future, has been staying with his father, stepmother and younger half-brother at the Wye River Plantation, about 55 miles east of Washington, since April 25.

But Saturday night they went by police-escorted motorcade to the home of Smith and Elizabeth Bagley, who have been active in Democratic fund-raising efforts. Smith Bagley is a foundation president and Elizabeth Bagley is a former U.S. ambassador to Portugal.
